Susan B. Anthony It was when she was told at an 1852 temperance convention that as a woman she should "listen and learn" rather than speak that Anthony dedicated her life to seeing American women get the right to vote. Working with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Anthony organized, agitated and educated around this issue. She never married, never had children, but was instead "wedded to an idea" that eventually yielded the 19th Amendment in 1920.
